H921: Big Questions: The Art of Philosophy in Splash Spring 2018 (Apr. 08, 2018)
We'll be taking a highly discussion-based journey through some of the most fundamental life questions: Why are we here? What does it mean to be human? What purpose do we have? Is there a god? What makes something beautiful? These and other questions will be asked (and hopefully answered!) through discussion of historical philosophers and the beliefs they held about the world. This class relies heavily on discussion and input from students, as we demonstrate the use of both analytical thinking and literary reflection to pursue answers to topics presented in the class. It is possible that more serious topics may be broached (God, mortality, etc.), but will be handled through an academic lens, with the goal of constructive discussion paramount.
