H8: Cartoons and Candy: Fun with Social Psychology

We will explore a handful of basic social psychology concepts as demonstrated through popular cartoons. We will also perform some fun interactive mini-experiments with the class in order to illustrate some major themes in this field of psychology. Some possible topics may include social norms, obedience, persuasion, and foot-in-the-door phenomenon, among many others. Also, there will be candy.

S1: Bose Einstein Condensate, Laser Cooling and the Race to Absolute Zero

What are Bose Einstein condensate? Are they really a fifth state of matter? How do they form? How could you used a laser to cool something and is absolute zero really possible? Sign up and find out!

S9: Imaging Atoms

Have you ever wanted to see atoms? In this class we will discuss how a simple quantum mechanical principle allows us to image the structure of conducting surfaces using a scanning tunneling microscope. Following our discussion we will use Clark’s newly acquired scanning tunneling microscope to image the atomic structure of graphite.

Note: the course is slotted for 1 hr and 50 minutes but likely be completed within an hour and a half.

Ever want to learn how to juggle? Well, now's your chance! Beginners and intermediate level jugglers are welcome. I'll be able to accommodate everyone. So, if you're a beginner, come learn how to juggle three! If you're an intermediate juggler, come learn some tricks!

X6: Create your Own Board Game!

If you think playing board games is a good time, then you're only having half the fun! Making your own board game is a straightforward process that is fun for you to create and for others to experience (or endure, depending on your goals). If you're feeling creative and/or always thought that your favorite book/show/movie/exotic pet deserved their very own game, then this is the class for you!

X12: Emergency Medicine at Home

Learn to improvise basic medical skills using supplies from around the house or outside. Learn some basic first aid, and how you can help yourselves and others while waiting for trained emergency personnel to arrive.
